Hey everyone, 2015 has gone by quickly! Here we are the first month of 2016. In case you are wondering,we do still have plans to get back on the project. In fact here soon I will be getting back to refinishing or replacing the wood on all parts of the boat. Since it is cool and rainy outside many days the indoor projects need to still get done. Soon after that I will finish cleaning the cabin and then prepare for the big fiberglass jobs.
Thanks for following our blog and yes we still are excited about getting this project done.
Archie & Pam
Well it has been a few weeks since our last post. As many of you know life does not stop just because you have a sailboat project waiting on you. I have walked by the boat many times wishing I could take the time to do some work on it. Unfortunately for the boat project, my family had some needs that required my attention as well as the church. So I am sure that everyone who has ever tackled this type of project has encountered this time management issue. We do plan to get back to work on it by next week. That’s our plan, Lord willing. Until then keep on the lookout for our next blog post and video. We are getting close to doing some fiberglass work!
Ok yall, I have done it! I have officially started to get this boat in shape. I know, we have yet to get to the challenging stuff but I have made some progress by taking all the hardware and wood out of the boat. (You can see the details about that if you watch the video. Video page)
I have also started a list of things to do. I am realizing that most of the things on this list have their own more detailed list of things to do within themselves. While we are working on the boat during our “free time”, we are conflicted between the feeling that this project is possible, and the overwhelming task that makes us feel that we may never get to the water. So we take it one day at a time and one task at a time. After all, there is no rush. So thanks for checking out our blog page, (please subscribe and share with others) and don’t forget to like us on Facebook and also subscribe to our YouTube Channel.
This is just the beginning of our list of things to do.

My name is Archie L Gilmer. I and my wife Pam obtained this 1976 Catalina 22 with a swing keel. We got it on the cheap and plan to restore it and sail it on our free time.
There are three problems with this plan. First, we don’t know anything about boats or how to work on the many things to do on this or any boat. Second, we don’t know how to sail. My wife and I have never been on a sailboat much less know anything about sailing. And finally the third problem is simply that we don’t have much free time to do any of this.
Well tackling the first problem is not too difficult. It is just a matter of learning as we go. Although I am expecting it to get a bit costly as we go but we will manage. I can learn how to do just about anything and my wife has always been a great help.
As far as our knowledge of sailing, we plan to get in touch with an ASA sailing school near us. We have plenty of time to take lessons and get some practice in before our boat will be ready to sail.
And as far as having the time to do all of this, well we will just have to work that out. If we wait until we have the time and money, we will never get there. Since this is our first sailboat, I am not in too big of a hurry to get it going. There is much to do and if I try to rush the job, I will just get discouraged and give up on it.
So as we make our progress, we will be posting blogs here at this site as well as some youtube videos of some of the things we have done and learned.
Feel free to send us some comments and even some advise. We could always use wisdom from those who have gone down this road. Thanks and God bless you all!
